Leaf peeping is a popular activity throughout the world. In Japan, 紅葉狩 (momijigari) is an annual rite marking the fall season. But you don't need to travel far to enjoy the colors!

We have consulted with our users on Facebook and with our internal panel of experts here at Maine Trail Finder to determine the best hikes to view the autumnal transformation:

As the fall foliage season progresses, we encourage you to post your comments and observations either on the individual trail pages or on our Facebook page.

Inquire locally or search online for the best times this year for observing the changing colors. Birches and aspens have already begun to yellow as far south as Augusta, although we have heard that some maples are also starting to change in Phillips as well.

Happy trails!
