Today the longest trail yet to be posted on Maine Trail Finder went live! The Down East Sunrise Trail is a multi-use trail spanning 85 miles and two counties, from Washington Junction in Hancock to Ayers Junction in Pembroke. The Down East Sunrise Trail is a project of the Maine Department of Transportation and the Maine Department of Conservation via the Bureau of Parks and Lands and is designated as a section of the East Coast Greenway, a developing trail system to span nearly 3,000 miles between Canada and Key West. The Down East Sunrise Trail represents the longest off-road section of the East Coast Greenway in New England.

The trail is managed with the help of the Sunrise Trail Coalition for the use of snowmobiles, ATV-ers, pedestrians, bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and equestrians and is open for summer and winter use!
