Starting today, Maine Trail Finder will begin growing! Follow Maine Trail Finder’s interactive map Downeast, and check out newly listed trails in Washington County. This first installment includes over 20 miles of trails on four state properties: Cobscook Bay State Park, Cutler Coast Public Reserved Land, Quoddy Head State Park, and Shackford Head State Park.
Maine Trail Finder’s Downeast expansion is made possible thanks to a partnership between the Center for Community GIS and Maine Bureau of Parks & Lands with funding support from the Recreational Trails Program and the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund. As we did this past summer, trails will be released a few at a time once they have been fully reviewed.
These Downeast trails mark Maine Trail Finder’s first foray outside of the greater Franklin County region. In the coming weeks, expect to see new trails released for other state parks and public reserved lands statewide, and additional sites in the Western Mountains and Greater Portland regions. We expect to have over one hundred trails for you to explore on Maine Trail Finder by this summer, and we continue to engage with new partners so that the website will become a truly state-wide resource.
Please check MaineTrailFinder.com or the Maine Trail Finder fan site on Facebook often to learn more about the newest trails and about the latest exciting ways to interact with our site. We hope that you are as excited as we are with the latest updates! Enjoy!
