Today Big Spencer Mountain Public Reserve Land went live on the Maine Trail Finder. This trail requires users to travel 33 miles north of Greenville on primarily dirt roads and is probably our most “remote” trail to date. The trail summits Big Spencer Mountain which rises sharply from the surrounding landscape to 3230 feet near the village of Kokadjo and the northeastern shores of Moosehead Lake. The upper half of the trail offers a technical climb on steep terrain with short ladders in several places. Rise to the challenge and add Big Spencer to your summer hiking list!

Joining Big Spencer today are the Aroostook State Park Hiking Trails which provide 3 miles of moderate to challenging hiking up the summits of Quaggy Jo Mountain in Presque Isle. Other trails that have gone up “silently” in the past two weeks include the Schoodic Mountain and Beach Trails in the Donnell Pond Public Reserved Land in Hanncock County, the Tree of Life Trail in Farmington, and the Rangeley Lakes Trails Center near Rangeley. All these trails have something unique to offer and are worth exploring.
