In the past week four more trails have been posted in Washington County! All four trails highlight the unique character and coastal habitats of Downeast Maine while providing hikes of varying lengths and difficulties.

On Petit Manan Point in Steuben, check out the Birch Point Trail and Hollingsworth Trail.  These trails are part of the US Fish and Wildlife’s Maine Coastal Island National Wildlife Refuge, a network of properties maintained primarily for seabird and migratory habitat. Wildlife abounds and a self-guided interpretive signs at Hollingsworth highlights the types of wildlife found in the refuge.

Further Downeast in Trescott Twp and Lubec, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife maintains trail systems at Horan Head and Commissary Point Wildlife Management Areas. Here, visitors can explore the inlets and coves of Cobscook Bay with year-round recreation opportunities.

Look for more in the upcoming weeks and take advantage of this weather to get out and explore!

Happy trails!
