The trail follows the eastern shores of Great Pond and provides a varied experience of walking through fields and forest and over wetland marsh on a raised boardwalk. Overlooks and views of Great Pond can be seen most of the way, as can evidence of beaver activity and other wildlife signs that are often seen from the trail.
While most of the trail has minimal grade changes, the path north of Davis Point overlook has an extreme grade drop that will challenge many trail users.

Cape Elizabeth Land TrustParking and access to the Great Pond Trail is off ME-77. Follow ME-77 south from its intersection with Shore Road for 1.9 miles. Coming from Scarborough, continue on ME-77/Bowery Beach Road 1.9 miles past Spurwink Avenue. Park along one of the side streets and walk to the trailhead. The trailhead is across from the Kettle Cove Creamery and Cafe; look for the sign.
The northern end of the trail is accessed from the end of Fenway Road and from Vernon Road. You can park on either side of Fenway Road, but please do not park in the cul-de-sac.
