Maine Trails

A series of loops through a lushly landscaped garden overlooking the Kennebec River as it flows through the Skowhegan Gorge.

This peninsula in Cobscook Bay can be explored on a 1.5 mile forested loop hiking trail, or a 3 mile round trip on a grassy lane through forest, old fields and orchards.

Sandy oceanfront beaches, saltwater coves, wooded areas, and rock ledges provide seashore recreation for visitors at these connected state parks. A few feet from the shore are gentle trails perfect for walking and observing nature.

The Town Forest Trail is a rustic trail hugging the borders of the 75-acre community forest. The trail is 1.5 miles and takes between 45 minutes and an hour and a half to walk.

Offering a taste of wilderness in downeast Maine along the famous Bold Coast, Cutler Coast Public Lands is a 12,334-acre expanse of a variety of ecosystems including 4.5 miles of headlands overlooking the Bay of Fundy.

An uphill trail on an old woods road, this short hike leads to one of the largest glacial erratics in New England.   Near the trailhead is an old foundation, probably of the Dagget farmstead.  There are several geocaches hidden around the rock.

Just a short walk through the woods to a lovely, quiet, sand beach on Wabassus Lake. A great destination for a picnic or to cool off on a hot summer day.

The 21,871-acre Deboullie Public Lands offers backcountry hiking and pond-side camping in a striking landscape east of the Allagash Region. Multiple hiking loops with wide vistas of forest lands are centered around scenic Deboullie Pond.

This trail, located on a 16-acre sanctuary, leads down to Mud Ponds and is great for a short hike and bird watching. The trails can be wet in the spring and are not marked but easily followed.

This conservation area offers a hike overlooking the St. Croix River along the highest headland east of Acadia National Park. Croix River. Opportunities exist for viewing wildlife and exploring a sand beach.
