This loop hike leaves ME Route 17 on the Appalachian Trail southbound to cross an old railroad grade and hike along the Bemis Ridgeline before joining a side trail that swings down into a valley and follow Bemis Stream back to the road.

The Norumbega Loop Trail features a steep hike up to the summit of Norumbega Mountain, then a gradual descent down to picturesque Lower Hadlock Pond. A hike along the shore of the pond leads to a connector to return to the trailhead.

This gravel sand bar to Bar Island is open for about 3 hours during low tide. Once on the island, another mile of trail leads to the highest point on the island for a nice view back at the village of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay.
