Description

This short but very beautiful walk along the uppermost reaches of Cutting Creek leads through a older pine forest to the north end of the salt marsh. Nearby, a small feeder stream leads to the marsh, providing a wonderful “babbling brook” background to the walk. Autumn is an especially lovely time to visit Mary’s Woods; the color changes in a salt marsh are more subtle than in tree leaves, but certainly as beautiful.

Other Information

The marsh is now owned by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Trailhead Information

From Main Rd. (Rte. 209) turn onto Fiddlers Reach Road, go one tenth of a mile and turn right onto Old Ferry Road. Turn right again almost immediately into the first driveway. Proceed to the end of the driveway (with caution – it is a steep hill) for parking. Please attempt to leave the driveway unblocked as the parking area is shared with the land owners. The trailhead is at the end of the drive between the house and outbuilding.

NOTE: Google Maps shows “Mary’s Woods Road,” which is not used to reach the preserve. The line shown as “Mary’s Woods Road” is actually a CMP easement, which you will cross when entering the driveway to the preserve.
