Join James Shields, a local amateur astronomer, for a guided tour of the night sky! You will learn the names and history of constellations and some of their lore. Participants will learn to use binoculars to search for meteors, satellites, and the increasingly elusive Milky Way. The night sky is constantly active and evolving, and with the help of James, you will learn to recognize important astronomical events and features.
Be prepared to walk about a half-mile in the dark with the assistance of red-light flashlights. If you do not have a red light, please bring a regular flashlight and we will help you make one with red cellophane. Please bring a portable lawn chair or blanket to sit on, and a pair of binoculars if you have them. We recommend insect repellent, and a light jacket or layers for the cooler night temperatures!
Tickets available online ($5 per person).
