This event is free and open to the public.
"Ten Days in the North Woods: A Kid’s Hiking Guide to the Katahdin Region", which will be released by Islandport Press on May 7, features ten regional hikes designed with young families in mind. A fictional 13-year-old girl named Hattie describes plants, animals, lakes, and more outdoor discoveries in Baxter State Park, the Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area, and the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. Kids will enjoy trail maps, photos, hiking safety tips, and full-color drawings by Maine artist Jada Fitch.
