In 1994, the Colby Wildlife Preserve was donated to the BRLT by Kitzi Colby’s daughters, Joanna Cameron and Anni Black. The preserve is a 12-acre parcel on Salt Marsh Cove on the Damariscotta River. Rich in history, this cove was once the site of saltworks, iceworks, a brickyard, ferry landing, sawmills and gristmills. Now in its natural state, the Salt Marsh Cove is of environmental importance to the health of the Damariscotta River. From the parking area on River Road, access the preserve by following the old road 0.3 miles to Salt Marsh Cove. The whole Loo Trail is 0.6 miles back to the parking lot.
The Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) manages the preserve and has worked to preserve the scenic beauty of the Boothbay region since 1980 through conserving land for the benefit and enjoyment of the residents and visitors.

From Boothbay, travel north on ME Route 27 from Boothbay Center for 2.9 miles to River Road. Turn right on River Road and travel another 3.2 miles. The Colby Preserve will be on your right.
From Newcastle, take River Road from US Route 1 and follow it approximately 6.0 miles. The Colby Preserve will be on the left.
From Edgecomb, take ME Route 27 south from US Route 1 for 3.7 miles. Turn left onto McCay Road and follow it for 1.7 miles. Turn right onto River Road and travel another 0.7 miles. The Colby Preserve will be on your right.
