Description

The Frye Mountain section of the Georges Highland Path trail system is located in Montville, ME, within the 5,240-acre state-owned Frye Mountain Wildlife Management Area. This “lollipop” trail passes through mixed and coniferous forests, parallels a wonderful stretch of Bartlett Stream, the northern-most feeder stream of the St. George River, and crosses Frye’s summit at 1,139 feet.

The Georges Highland Path network of conservation trails is a project of the Georges River Land Trust.

No overnight camping is allowed.

Leashed dogs are permitted. Please clean up after your pet!

Trailhead Information

From the intersection of ME Routes 3 and 220 in Liberty, follow ME Route 220 north for 6.5 miles to Walker Ridge Road on the right. Park at the ME Deptartment of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife maintenance building lot and walk up gravel road 0.3 miles to trailhead on right.

So we hiked this with our two dogs, at 7.5 miles expected it to take 4-5 hours. In reality this trail, leaving from the noted start point and doing the entire lollypop loop is over 10.7 miles long, be warned and be prepared!

Gorgeous hike. Super interesting trail. Well worth a few hours.

Long ramble through the woods. Nothing much in the way of views. The "scenic viewpoint" was pretty overgrown and only offered a small glimpse across the valley. 6/11/17- Not a recommended hike.
