The adjacent Linekin Preserve and the Burley Loop protect 138 wooded acres stretching from ME Route 96 near Lineken Bay up over a rocky ridge and then down to the Damariscotta River and 651 feet of water front. Almost 3 miles of trails vary from moderate to somewhat difficult and traverse a variety of terrain, including predominantly hardwood forest, some old growth evergreen woods, and several streams. There is a lily pond, an old beaver dam, a woodland pond, magnificent rock ledges, and gravel shoreline along the river with views across to South Bristol and out to sea to the White Islands.
The preserve offers abundant wildlife. Plant life includes ferns, mosses, a wide variety of trees such as red spruce, balsam fir, white pine, red oak, red maple, eastern hemlock, birch and even sugar maple. Birds, deer, small mammals, frogs and toads thrive in this protected habitat. There are traces of old stone walls suggesting that the Linekin Preserve portion was once pasture, likely grazed by sheep. The Burley portion remained in its wild state and probably was never logged.
Linekin Preserve was created when Ann and Walter Levison donated a portion of their land to BRLT in 1994 as well as a right of way which allowed the loop trail along the Damariscotta River. The family retained their home and the surrounding parcel; visitors are asked to respect the family’s privacy. Then in 2006 Linda Burley gave BRLT an adjacent 43 acres, fulfilling the wishes of her late parents, William and Lina Burley, that “the people should be able to walk the land”. Their tenure in that land reflected their belief in conservation as well as the preservation of its natural beauty.
The Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) manages the preserve and has worked to preserve the scenic beauty of the Boothbay region since 1980 through conserving land for the benefit and enjoyment of the residents and visitors.

From ME Route 27 in Boothbay Harbor, take ME Route 96 and proceed 3.8 miles through East Boothbay. The Linekin Preserve parking area is on the left shortly after passing Alley Road on the right.
