This gravel sand bar to Bar Island is open for about 3 hours during low tide. Once on the island, another mile of trail leads to the highest point on the island for a nice view back at the village of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay.
1.9 miles, Round Trip
The hike from Sieur de Monts to Sand Beach via Beachcroft and Champlain Mountain trails features panoramic coastal mountain views of Mount Desert Island, Frenchman Bay, and the outer islands. The Beachcroft Trail is an historic memorial pathway, constructed in 1915.
3.7 miles, One Way
This hike traverses a forested valley before ascending Beech Mountain, where there is a fire tower and views of Long Pond, the western side of Mount Desert Island, the ocean and outlying islands.
2.1 miles, Loop
The Beehive is an exposed, iron rung climb. It is not recommended for small children, people with a fear of heights or in wet weather. Good traction shoes are advised. Those who are up for this challenging hike are rewarded with outstanding views.
