We are pleased to announce that Saco Bay Trails will reopen the Ted Wells Trail in Ocean Park at a Work/Walk Party on Saturday, July 11th.
Parts of Ted Wells Trail have been closed for several years due to deterioration of the boardwalk. We dismantled the boardwalk and marsh viewing platform but were unable to rebuild the trail on the old route because of the wetlands.
We have received approval from Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge to reroute the trail along an established informal path which leads to an excellent view of the marsh slightly to the west of the old platform. The new path gets muddy in places, so we will build bog bridges, blaze the trail, and put up temporary signs until permanent signs can be built.
Social distancing guidelines will be maintained. Please wear masks and gloves. (Insect repellent is recommended, too.) We will provide hand sanitizer and other materials.
Work/Walk Parties are sponsored by Saco Bay Trails on the second Saturday of every month (except August) until winter. Everyone is welcome, please feel free to work, walk or both. Membership in Saco Bay Trails is not required, but it is welcomed, you can join on our website. We are an all-volunteer organization which maintains trails for public use around the Saco Bay area.
We look forward to seeing you!
