Join Royal River Conservation Trust (RRCT) staff and volunteers in establishing a new 2-mile lollipop loop trail on a 150-acre conservation easement in New Gloucester! Once completed, this River Elf Trail will allow public hiking and bank fishing access on the Royal River.
The first mile of the trail is complete, and we'll start replacing the flagging with plastic blazes. When the trail splits and forms a loop, we'll continue clearing a primitive trail corridor, around 6’ wide x 8’ tall with a 24” wide trail tread. We’ll cut overhanging branches, remove brush, and rake the trail tread. Low shrubs and young trees that will encroach upon the sides of the trail should be cut flush with the ground.
The event is open to trail work beginners and experts alike. Volunteers should be prepared to hike 2 miles over uneven and sometimes steep terrain. Please bring plenty of water, snacks, insect repellent, closed-toe shoes, and work gloves. RRCT will provide all the tools needed (we have spare gloves if you don't have any), but feel free to bring loppers, hand saws, and rakes if you have them.
Registration is recommended by emailing Hanae. If the event is canceled due to inclement weather, you will be notified 48 hours in advance.
Parking: The 4-car trailhead parking lot is across the street from 401 Cobbs Bridge Rd, New Gloucester. The rest of us can park along the road shoulder, on the same side as the parking lot.
