Description

Cranberry Pond Trail parallels the Park Tote Road for 1.5 miles between Rocky Pond and Togue Pond. Its western trailhead begins immediately across the Park Tote Road from where the Kettle Pond Trail ends, 1.2 miles west of the Togue Pond Gate. It passes Cranberry Pond and Rocky Pond, two of the many ponds formed by glacial action in the south part of Baxter State Park. The eastern end of Cranberry Pond Trail is a few hundred feet east of the Togue Pond Gate, near a Park service building and parking area. The trail is blue-blazed.

Trail Tips

Plan Ahead and Prepare
Avoid hypothermia, even in warm weather, by limiting your sweat and exposure to cold water. Bring warm and dry clothes in case the shivers set in.

Trailhead Information

From downtown Millinocket: Travel 16 miles northwest on the paved Baxter Park Road to the Togue Pond Gatehouse, passing buildings and Northwoods Trading Post on the right after eight miles. After entering the park at Togue Pond Gate, bear left and continue onto the Park Tote Road for 1.2 miles. Park on the right side of the road in a small dirt pull-out. The trailhead is located across the road to the south.

Parking for the alternate southeastern trailhead is available just before the Togue Pond Gatehouse in a small lot near a Park service building.

Please park cars completely off the road so as not to obstruct traffic.
