Dwelley Pond is a small remote trout pond located in the northwest part of Baxter State Park. Two trailheads on the Park Tote Road provide access to this wilderness area and to the southern shore of Dwelley Pond via a section of the Old Park Tote Road which has been converted into a foot and bike trail.
The Dwelley Pond Trail and its McCarty Field trail extension run for 5.2 miles between Dwelley Pond Trailhead and McCarty Field Trailhead. McCarty Field, a small picnic area on the edge of a woodland stream, is located 1.4 miles south of the McCarty Field Trailhead. Dwelley Pond is located 1.4 miles northwest of the Dwelley Pond Trailhead.
A locked canoe is available for use, with a nominal fee per hour. The key can be obtained from the ranger at Nesowadnehunk Field Campground.

From Millinocket: Travel 16 miles northwest on the paved Baxter Park Road to the Togue Pond Gatehouse, passing buildings and Northwoods Trading Post on the right after eight miles. After entering the park at Togue Pond Gate, bear left and continue onto the Park Tote Road for 22.3 miles. The Dwelley Pond Trailhead is located on the right side of the road, 5.7 miles past Nesowadnehunk Field Campground. The McCarty Field Trailhead is located another 4.7 miles along the Park Tote Road on the right, just after a bridge.
From Patten: leave ME-11 and turn left on ME-159/Shin Pond Road. Continue 26 miles on this road to the Matagamon Gatehouse. The McCarty Field Trailhead is located on the left, 14.1 miles beyond the Matagamon Gatehouse on the Park Tote Road, just before a bridge. Park cars off the road. The Dwelley Pond Trailhead is another 4.7 miles southeast along the Park Tote Road on the left.
