Back to the Basics Yurt was established to offer a place of relief from a fast-paced lifestyle. It’s a place to deepen relationships with family or friends, unwind and be still, or allow your inner child to run free in a breathtaking landscape. Our four-season yurt is situated on 120 acres, is connected to several easy hiking trails as well as the Maine Interconnected Trail System (ITS), and is accessible by vehicle.
Back to the Basics Yurt business owner and guide, Traci Halvorson, harnesses her passion for teaching and play while guiding women's only and family-centered trips local to the Presque Isle area, Millinocket region, and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. Traci also enjoys teaching wilderness skills to local youth for interactive field trip experiences.
Traci's most recent guiding endeavor is Shinrin-Yoku, translated into English as ‘forest bathing'. This adventure includes observing the outdoor atmosphere while taking a leisurely stroll. It was developed in Japan during the 1980s, and has become a cornerstone of Japan's preventive health care and healing. Traci believes it provides people the opportunity to slow down and just be present in the moment while also helping some to break down fears and become more comfortable being in the forest. No matter how you look at it, it's a win for everyone!
Back to the Basics Yurt guiding and forest bathing are separate services offered by Traci to guests or other interested groups. If the yurt, guided adventures, a school field trip, or forest bathing is something you're interested in be sure to contact Traci today!
