Description

The Cooper Farm foot trails offer an idyllic and gentle outing for all ages. Pick blueberries in the extensive fields that surround the trailhead or bring a picnic and enjoy the views over the rolling coastal hills and East Penobscot Bay.

Three interconnected loop trails offer hikers or cross-country skiers a variety of paths to choose from and over 1.5 miles of trail in total. The upper loop (nearest the trailhead) descends through fields of wildflowers and blueberries. The middle and lower loops (farthest from the trailhead) wind through mossy coastal forest before returning to the fields and trailhead. Trails are ungroomed in the winter, but still enjoyable for skiers.

Other Information

The 134-acre Cooper Farm property lies on the sloping fields of Caterpillar Hill in Sedgwick. In 2001, Blue Hill Heritage Trust purchased this important scenic and cultural landmark with the support of the former landowners, Island Heritage Trust, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and many community members.

The view from ME-15 in Sedgwick is prized by both residents and visitors. A scenic turnout maintained by the Department of Transportation provides a safe place for visitors to pull off the road. The view overlooks the open fields and forest owned by the Trust as well as Eggemoggin Reach, the islands of Penobscot Bay, and the Camden Hills.

These trails are for foot or ski traffic only. Please carry out what you bring in. Keep pets leashed and clean up after them. Ticks are prevalent in the open field, please check for ticks daily on yourself and your pets. Fires are not permitted in the preserve.
