Description

The Goose River trail follows the Goose River before looping back through the woods to Finntown Road. The Mill Pond Trail begins across the road 400 feet west of the kiosk. It skirts the edge of the bog before reaching the southern edge of Mill Pond.

The preserves are mostly forested, and include several wetlands as well as a beautiful, quiet stretch along the Goose River. The preserve has some of the best spring wildflowers in the area. Common tree species include red spruce, balsam fir, white pine, hemlock, red maple, red oak, birch, beech, and big tooth aspen. The forest is all second-growth and is relatively young, with the oldest trees dating from the 1920's. A dense understory of herbs and ferns is found throughout, with Canada mayflower, starflower, bunchberry, bracken fern, New York fern, and cinnamon fern frequently present.

Other Information

Please stay on the trail, carry out what you carry in, and keep your dogs leashed or under control at all times. A portion of this trail follows along a snowmobile trail, which offers good cross-country skiing opportunities.
