Description

This trail loops around on the mainland portion of a 38 acre parcel of upland, wetlands, and two islands. The trail follows a well established forest path and includes benches overlooking Pushaw Lake and wetlands as well as excellent bird-watching (species seen include eagles, loons, and great blue herons). There are also glacial erratic boulders and a geocache that add interest to the trail. Though a relatively easy trail, there are some steep pitches on the access trail and in a few places along the loop itself.

This is a nice little trail. It's a bit rough though -- you really have to watch your footing. It's well marked by blue blazes.
The biggest drawback is the very unfriendly parking situation. There is not a single parking space available for the public. The boat landing has spaces for boat trailers, and a couple of spaces for paddlers using the boat landing. The rest of the spaces - 10 or so - are Permit Only. And all the roads in the vicinity are marked for No Parking, with the road right in front of the Trail Sign marked as No Parking by Temporary Police Order. For a public trail not to have even one legal parking space is a real problem.

Beautiful trail, yes. Scenic fall lake? Sure. Easy? No. My wife, a lifelong hiker, fell on steep slippery roots and rocks and hurt herself. There is also a good bit of balancing on old logs. I would not have let her go by herself if I’d known. Short, but Moderate difficulty at a minimum.
