The trail system consists of a large main loop that is just shy of 2 miles around, featuring six differentials and mini-loops within it. Hiking or riding on horseback through Martin Woods Farm requires traversing moderately difficult terrain, but is perfectly friendly to guests of all ages and athletic ability. On foot circling the large loop takes about 40 minutes.
Circling a densely forested valley, the trails are home to a variety of flora and fauna. Mushrooms of all shapes and sizes, many varying species of trees, and other local vegetation grows lavishly high and low. Two streams run through, with six bridge crossings along the trails. Local birds, squirrels, deer are often spotted. There are even the occasional fox, opossum, raccoon, or moose!
While staff maintain the trails with tractors or snowmobiles, it is left undisturbed by vehicle traffic or crossings. Snow is maintained through the winter, allowing for use of our trails in any conditions except on ice or in freezing rain. Safe and unsafe conditions are determined by staff and owners.
The Martin Woods Farm Trail System was renovated in December 2024; including six brand-new bridges, reinforced pathways, updated drainage, and more. There are many events and programs providing fun for the whole family on these beautiful trails!
Guests must check in with staff, or call/text property owner Coleman Martin at (207) 500-6820 or barn manager Maelyn Leighton (207) 578-2780 before using the trail system, unless they are scheduled for a guided horse trail. Martin Woods Farm staff must always be aware of a guest's presence on the property.
Martin Woods Farm is an equestrian facility, hosting trail rides and lessons, and the trails are primarily used for guided horse rides. Guests may also hike, snowshoe, ski, and even take guided foraging classes along the trail. Horse rides are $50 per rider; there is no fee to walk the trails.
The farm also includes a market; providing fresh eggs, canned goods of varying types, and local farm goods. The farm's Center for Human Ecology is available to rent for events, and hosts its own events year round!
