The Peter Miller Woodland is part of a large area of undeveloped forestland in the hilly town of Vienna. A stream winding its way through the property feeds two man-made ponds, while ostrich ferns, brown ash, red maples, and many other interesting wetland plants dominate a small floodplain. Look for the tracks of moose, black bear, deer, and other wildlife. The woodland, heavily harvested in the 1960s and selectively cut in the early 2000s, now features a mixed-aged hardwood and evergreen forest. The southerly orientation makes the woods inviting early and late in the season.
The moderate loop trail features stone walls, woods roads, and the ponds. From the Anderson Ridge Road trailhead and KLT sign-in box, the loop can be hiked in either direction, mostly downhill on the way to the ponds and uphill returning.
KLT holds annual workshops at the Peter Miller Woodland which focus on purchasing and managing forestland for wildlife habitat, nature observation, outdoor recreation, and sustainable firewood and timber production. The small cabin on the propertyis used as housing for interns during the summer.
