Description

This short but spectacular trail runs from near the shore on Atkins Bay to the summit of historic Cox’s Head, site of Revolutionary War and War of 1812 fortifications. The trail is a scramble over granite ledges with steep drop offs. 

Other Information

The Wilbur Preserve at Cox's Head was donated to the land trust in 2010 by the Rankin family.

Young children should be closely supervised.

Be prepared for emergencies. Pack extra clothing, food, and water and also a flashlight, first aid and repair kit, matches/fire starters, whistle, signaling mirror, and pocket knife.

Trailhead Information

Follow the Parker Head Road to the intersection of the Cox’s Head Road. Follow the Cox’s Head Road to the intersection of the Green Point Road. Follow the Green Point Road (right) to the shore. A grassy parking area can be found on the northern side of the road.

The trail to the vista is great, but we took the Old Tree Trail on the way down and found it overgrown with thorns and burrs in some spots. I'd recommend skipping that path, especially if you have kiddos along.

Agree wholeheartedly with previous comment. Also a nice beachy area to walk down below parking area at low tide.

Absolutely beautiful trail. Very short walk with a very big payoff! The view is spectacular. Will definitely visit this one again!
