We're getting started on the rehabilitation of Horton Woods at our July Work/Walk Party!
This month we will focus on the opening section of Horton Woods where the trail has eroded, leaving it muddy in places with many tree roots exposed. We will prepare the trail for more extensive repairs later this year.
Please bring a leaf rake if you have one, you can bring your own work gloves and a water bottle, too (we will provide the water.) Other tools will be delivered to the site by Saco Bay Trails's new Mobile Trail Workshop.
As always, everyone is welcome. Please feel free to work, walk, or both. Work/Walk Parties are sponsored by Saco Bay Trails on the second weekend of every month (except August) until winter.
We will meet at 9am at the parking lot at 464 Buxton Road (ME-112) in Saco.
Horton Woods is our longest and most diverse trail network, featuring nearly 3 miles of trails on a 100-acre preserve acquired by the City of Saco under the Land for Saco's Future program. It connects with Stone Bridge Trail and Mery Merrill Trail for a 4-mile round trip hike leading to a beautiful overlook on the Saco River.
Saco Bay Trails is an all-volunteer organization that maintains trails for public use around the Saco Bay area. All our events are free and open to the public. If you are not already a member, you can join at www.sacobaytrails.org.
