Watching fireflies is a fun summer activity, but it can also help scientists better understand these fascinating beetles! This program will feature an informative talk on fireflies as well as an introduction to citizen science. We will be participating in a citizen science project – observing and counting fireflies. This will be similar to the firefly program in early July, with an added bonus. (Whether you attended that earlier program or not, you are welcome to join us at this program!)
We will be walking in the dark, so please bring a flashlight (preferably one with red light capabilities). The entire program takes place outside, please bring appropriate clothing as well as insect repellent. The program is suitable for all ages.
Don Salvatore was a science educator at the Museum of Science in Boston for over 30 years and a curator of the Firefly Watch Citizen Science Project.
Preregistration is required for this event.
