A group of conservation groups, including the Freeport Conservation Trust, Norcross Wildlife Foundation, the Citizens of Freeport, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, helped the New England Forestry Foundation acquire the property to conserve some forestland in the rapidly developing town. Freeport Conservation Trust holds an easement on the property. The 86-acre woodlot is about a mile and a half from the shores of the Harraseeket River and Casco Bay. The woods are dominated by red oak, white pine, and red spruce. The property provides a variety of habitats for wildlife including mast-producing hardwood stands, mixed softwood stands for winter cover, flooded wetlands, and grassy openings.

Freeport Conservation TrustBliss Woods is located in Freeport, Maine with frontage on South Freeport Road. Starting on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth, take exit 17. Follow Route 1 north for approximately one mile. Turn right onto South Freeport Road. The property is one mile on the left from the intersection of Route 1 and South Freeport Road. There is a sign on the road describing the woodlot, and the trail accessing the property begins behind this sign.
