Bliss Woods

Typical of the midcoast region, Bliss Woods grows their red oaks and white pines out of pockets of wet ground and ledge. The trail is fairly flat and likely offers good mushroom hunting in late summer.

Description

A group of conservation groups, including the Freeport Conservation Trust, Norcross Wildlife Foundation, the Citizens of Freeport, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, helped the New England Forestry Foundation acquire the property to conserve some forestland in the rapidly developing town. Freeport Conservation Trust holds an easement on the property. The 86-acre woodlot is about a mile and a half from the shores of the Harraseeket River and Casco Bay. The woods are dominated by red oak, white pine, and red spruce. The property provides a variety of habitats for wildlife including mast-producing hardwood stands, mixed softwood stands for winter cover, flooded wetlands, and grassy openings.

Much larger than it looks. The maps you will find on arrival will show the rest of the network which in my est. is at least 3x larger than just Bliss Woods. It's a gorgeous walk and worth going all the way to the other side.
