Perry Island, also known as Sheep Island, is the largest undeveloped island on Cobbosse Lake at 6 acres in size. Prior to the construction of a 9-foot dam on Cobbossee Stream in 1917, Perry Island could be reached by a land bridge from Horseshoe Island and parts of the Cobbossee shoreline. It is thought that farmers led their livestock to the island to graze, leading to the name "Sheep Island." Now, the property is covered in a healthy conifer-hardwood forest. The island was conserved by the Kennebec Land Trust in 1993.
While the Scotch Ledge Loop Trail trail is short, it provides views of much of Cobbossee Lake, including adjacent Kennebec Land Trust Properties on Hodgdon and Horseshoe Islands.

Kennebec Land TrustPerry Island is located only a few hundred feet north of the western tip of the "horseshoe" that makes up Horseshoe Island. There are two public boat launches that allow access to Perry Island, one on Turtle Run Road just off Route 202 in East Winthrop, and a second off Route 135, in Monmouth, on the southwest shore of the lake. There is an informal access point in Manchester at the intersection of the Pond Road and Collins Road at the Cobbossee Stream outlet.
A Kennebec Land Trust (KLT) sign on the west shore marks the "landing." Access is by personal watercraft in the summer. In the winter, hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing provide access when the lake is frozen.
