The trail begins by traveling along Sucker Brook, through a hemlock grove and past a historic mill. 0.25 miles from the trailhead, their is a junction with the Hodson Trail to the left (west), which loops 0.5 miles around an old sugar maple grove, passing mature hardwoods and apple trees.
Continuing straight at the junction, the Rheault Trail proceeds 0.9 miles to the summit of Howe Hill (elevation 540 feet). The managed organic blueberry barren through which the trail travels over its last 0.2 provides for pleasant views of Bald and Hatchet Mountains, Camden Hills State Park, and Penobscot Bay.
