Description

Many short, wooded trails offer unlimited options for exploring this property. From the parking lot, the Pierce Trail heads south, paralleling the river for 0.15 miles before coming to the junction. To the right, a short spur, the Pottle Trail, leads to a view point along the river; the Pierce Trail continues to the left, giving access to the rest of the trail network. From the Pierce Trail, five other trails cross the property to the trail on its east boundary, the Holden Loop. The 0.4 mile Harkins Trail, the first right after the Pottle Trail, heads to and then along the river before meeting back up again with the Pierce Trail.

Other Information

The Twin Bridges Preserve is one of many preserves that are a part of the Crooked River Forest. WFLT continues to partner with other organizations to protect lands in the Crooked River watershed, with an over-arching goal of protecting a forested watershed for a variety of ecosystem services including water quality. Over 200,000 households, 1/6th of Maine, rely upon clean drinking water from the Sebago Lake Reservoir, which is fed by the Crooked River and other tributaries within the greater Sebago Lake Watershed

Beautiful hike! Trails well-marked. Want to come back on a cooler day and explore more. The trails I did are in great shape! River is running fast and high. Few bugs. Little mud - nice surprise after all the spring rain. Perfect choice for this hot day with my senior pups!

This trail group needs maintenance. Wandered around for 1.5 hours. Not much to see. The most popular route, judging by the trail conditions, was along the river. The rest of the trails were overgrown and neglected, with ferns up to my wife's armpits making it difficult to traverse areas. Missing signage also resulted in wrong turns onto an old woods road.

I did Pierce, Pottle, Hankins, Moore & Scribner Hirst trails. I had wanted to do the Blake Loop, but wasn't confident about the signage I saw and didn't have the time to risk unanticipated loops & backtracking. Signage for Blake out on the property did not seem to match the map I printed from WFLT website, although otherwise the signage and trail marking was pretty good. Beautiful river views, and lovely forest on the inland trails.

This was a easy short hike in to the river. It was quiet with lots of plant life to observe.
