The Reeds Loop invites hikers into a quiet corner of Madrid Township, where Orbeton Stream, wooded hillsides, and a rocky forest loop create a memorable outing. Orbeton Stream includes rocks and pools providing places to splash in the stream on a hot day.
The trail travels through a bouldery terrain providing extra interest amidst the trees. The trail has a mix of gentle grades along the stream, and some steeper terrain heading up then back down from the ridge. The recommended direction is to do the loop counter-clockwise, to proceed down the gentler descent to the river and then return by heading up the steep trail to the ridge, then following the ridge back to the trailhead.
This is one of three Fly Rod Crosby trails. Named for Cornelia ""Fly Rod" Crosby, these trails span the region she loved, with trailheads at three locations offering a variety of experiences. The Fly Rod Crosby Trail continues along Orbeton Stream from the north end of Reeds Loop, where the Reeds Loop heads left up to the ridge.
