Description

This is a five-foot wide mostly stonedust and grass path around the perimeter of the Wainwright Athletic Fields with low slopes and cross slopes. The path can be accessed from the main parking area or the Greenbelt Pathway/Eastern Trail. There is a trailhead kiosk at the eastern corner of the fields. While there are no obstacles over 2” tall in the treadway, those who are using wheeled strollers or mobility assistance equipment may find some parts of the trail quite bumpy under the grass, especially on the western side of the fields.

Trail Tips

RESPECT MAINE CULTURE AND LEAVE WHAT YOU FIND

Learn about the Wabanaki Nations. Today, the four federally recognized tribes in Maine are the Houlton Band of Maliseet, Mi’kmaq Nation, Penobscot Nation, and Passamaquoddy Tribe, known collectively as the Wabanaki Nations and “People of the Dawnland.” Wabanaki people have inhabited the land we now call Maine since time immemorial. To learn more about Wabanaki Nations visit the Wabanaki Alliance.

Trailhead Information

Follow Highland Avenue south 2.6 miles from ME-77 in South Portland, and look for Gary Maietta Drive on the right. From Scarborough, follow Highland Avenue 2.8 miles north from its intersection with ME-207. Follow Gary Maietta Drive until it ends at the Wainwright Athletic Fields' parking lot.
