Description

The quiet woodland trail loops through a variety of forest and wetland habitats with good opportunities for viewing wildlife. 0.3 miles south from the trailhead there is a spur trail to a ledge overlooking the Pemaquid River, a perfect spot for picnics. Old stone walls and impressive ledge outcrops are also to be found along the one-mile trail.

PRESERVE GUIDELINES

  • Know the weather and terrain, dress appropriately.
  • Travel on durable surfaces - walk on trails, rocks, and beaches.
  • Day use only.
  • Carry out all waste. If you can also carry out any waste you find (our thanks!).
  • Leave what you find - pick/cut no flowers or plants, do not remove artifacts.
  • No campfires.
  • Respect wildlife by observing from a distance and keeping pets under control.
  • Be considerate of other visitors by enjoying this preserve quietly.

Avoid hypothermia, even in warm weather, by limiting your sweat and exposure to cold water. Bring warm and dry clothes in case the shivers set in.

Trailhead Information

From Main Street in Damariscotta, go 2.7 miles east on Biscay Road, then take a right on Lessner Road. Go 2.1 miles (Lessner Road become Benner Road after 1.6 miles) and look for the small wooded parking area on the right (460 Benner Road).
