Trailhead

To get to Stockholm follow ME Route 161 north of New Sweden a little approximately 5 miles and turn onto Stockholm Road. Follow Stockholm Road (becomes South Main Street) for about 2.5 miles and turn right onto school street just after crossing the Madawaska River. The parking and trailhead are at the Stockholm Community Center a quarter mile up the road on the left. An information board marks the trailhead at the edge of the woods.

Alternately, if coming from the north, follow ME Route 161 approximately 10 miles south of its intersection with ME Route 162 and turn left onto Lake Street. Follow Lake Street to its end on South Main Street and follow the directions above.

Description

The trails at Snowy Mountain are regularly mowed in the summer and well groomed for skiing in the winter. Boots are recommended for walkers as the soil tends to hold water and can be muddy.

Francis Anderson Loop (1.0 mile loop, moderate): This trail is very rolling and twisty with short steeper climbs and descents meant to test skiers technical ability. The trail passes through mature forest and is home to many birds, making it a fantastic place for a walk or stroll on skis. The trail also crosses the athletic field several times (follow arrow signs).

Anna Sprague Loop (1.0 mile loop, moderate): Named for Stockholm's first Junior National ski champion, this trail branches off the Francis Anderson and has some short sections of steep terrain that fade into gradual climbs for nice classic skiing, followed by a long but manageable descent.
