Description

The Race Point Trail, formerly Kelly Point Road, leads 0.7 miles from Crow’s Neck Road to the Long Meadow Picnic Pavilion. Bicycles are allowed on this trail as far as the pavilion.

The Reversing Falls Trail, a 0.6-mile loop, follows the northern shoreline of the park. An overlook at Kelly Point offers a spectacular panorama of the racing tides of the reversing falls around Falls Island, and a long view down Denny’s Bay.

At the end of the Reversing Falls Trail and Race Point Trail, a mowed path leads to IFW ‘s Race Point Unit and the Straight Bay Loop. This  0.8-mile loop travels around a narrow peninsula facing south into Straight Bay.

The Mowe’s Mountain Trail (0.35 miles each way) climbs to the highest point in the park, providing a bird’s eye view of Denny’s Bay to the northwest.

There are two screened picnic pavilions at Race Point. The Long Meadow Picnic Pavilion is in the center of the park on the Race Point Trail. The Racing Tides Picnic Pavilion is accessed via the Race Point Trail or Reversing Falls Trail.

Other Information

Race Point is open dawn to dusk, from May to October. It is a part of Cobscook Shores, a system of fifteen waterfront parks that are privately owned and/or maintained by Cobscook Shores INC., a family funded Maine charitable foundation. The parklands offer public access and recreational use including walking, picnicking, hiking, biking, camping, and paddling in Cobscook Bay.

Currents are incredibly strong and dangerous around Race Point, these waters are not suitable for paddling.

The Maine Outdoor Education Program hosts local students each spring at Race Point for guided biking on the Race Point property and Crow’s Neck Road.
