The 0.8-mile South Bay Trail is an “Acadia style” crusher fine gravel trail that leads to Red Point. Bicycles are allowed on this trail.
The Red Point Island Trail leaves the South Bay Trail to the north, and explores the island via a 0.8-mile figure-eight loop, taking in Little Point to the east. There is no access to Red Point for an hour or two at high tide twice daily. Be sure to plan your hike accordingly so that you do not get stuck on the island. Do not attempt to cross while water covers stepping stones at the Red Point Island Crossing – simply wait until tide recedes.
Both the Red Point and Red Point Island trails offer spectacular views of South Bay including Scrub Island, Long Island and the Long Island Passage.
There are two screened picnic pavilions, the Red Point Picnic Pavilion and Isthmus Picnic Pavilion, on Red Point. There is a third on the Red Point Island, the Little Point Picnic Pavilion. Additionally, there are six private picnic table sites scattered throughout Red Point and Red Point Island. The Large Picnic Pavilion is available for groups of six or more.
Red Point is open 9am to 5pm (last admittance at 4pm), from May to October. Birding groups may make special arrangements by contacting admin@cobscookshores.org.
Red Point is a part of Cobscook Shores, a system of fifteen waterfront parks that are privately owned and/or maintained by Cobscook Shores INC., a family funded Maine charitable foundation. The parklands offer public access and recreational use including walking, picnicking, hiking, biking, camping, and paddling in Cobscook Bay.

From Lubec, take ME-189 west, 3.3 miles from the junction of Main Street and Washington Street to the parking area for the trailhead on the right.
From US-1 in Whiting, take ME east for 7.4 miles to the parking area for the trailhead on the left.
